Hello! I’m Tany, a junior doctor passionate about propagating art as a climate and health advocacy tool. Currently, I’ve been exploring how creative means can build planetary health awareness and motivate climate action. Planetary health is a concept which recognises the vital interconnectedness between human health and the natural systems that support us.
My journey began as a Wattle Fellow, and I continue to have the pleasure of working with organisations including Doctors for the Environment Australia, Medical Pantry and CLIMARTE to promote climate resilient health systems. My Theory of Change centres on driving systems improvement via interdisciplinary projects that integrate art and the medical humanities to enhance safe, compassionate patient care.
As a multimedia artist and curator, I believe storytelling is foundational to effective communication. As healthcare professionals, making and experiencing art can promote culturally sensitive care, build empathy, observation skills and a cruicial tolerance for ambiguity. As alumna of The University of Melbourne Medical school, my valedictory speech culminated in a call for action; one for us to place faith in one another’s humanity and to work collectively toward a healthier planet. Since then, I have studied Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) via Harvard Medical School with view to interrogate the translatable ways in which art improve clinical practice.
My advocacy art exhibition and curatorial debut, Do No Harm: Reflections on Healthcare, opened to public late October 2025 at No Vacancy Gallery in Melbourne’s CBD. The Virtual Gallery is available here.
